SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING IN AG: a SNEAK PEEK WEBINAR
Webinar
september 27, 2023
1:00 PM - 2:00PM MST
By now you have probably heard the statistics; A 2021 Canadian research study found that 1 in 4 farmers had thoughts of suicide in 2021, which they estimated to be 2 times higher than the general Canadian population. In addition, globally agriculture has been identified as one of the higher risk occupations because of isolated working conditions, high levels of financial risk & uncertainty, seasonality of work, and lack of access to supports.
In response, AgKnow is excited to be partnered with Tara Adams from Abridge Consulting to provide suicide awareness and prevention workshops for Alberta’s agriculture industry. These sessions are created for peer-to-peer relationships and align with the workplace suicide training available through the Centre for Suicide Prevention.
If you are interested in hosting sessions about engaging effectively with your peers and coworkers to improve mental wellness and resiliency in your farming community, this is the session for you. At these sessions you will:
· Learn to “Know Your Role” in suicide prevention
· Increase your confidence to respond to people in distress
· Get the skills to build a suicide safER community & workplace
Tara Adams, is the sole employee and owner of Abridge Consulting which she founded to “get more people, more help, sooner”. Tara has delivered courses locally in Calgary, provincially and nationally for large and small corporations, so we are so excited to have her developing courses specifically for us at AgKnow.
Right now, we are training a number of facilitators from across the province to deliver these events locally and are gearing up to schedule sessions starting this September. Those who are currently on our waitlist will be contacted first. Please register for our upcoming webinar to learn more about these events, meet our facilitators, how to book a training session and other AgKnow offerings.
