RESEARCH ASSISTANT BIO
My name is Adachukwu Chimaobi, but I can also be addressed by Ada. I am an international student in my fourth year Majoring in Bsc Psychology and minoring in Biology. I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria.
Anyone who knows Nigeria, knows that almost all households practice subsistence farming, which means that I grew up surrounded by farming and was a farmer myself for a little while. Apart from oil, agriculture is one of the biggest assets Nigeria has to offer and puts into perspective what their everyday lives look like. A
lthough I have a keen interest in forensic psychology and cognitive development in children, I am passionate about a career in healthcare (either go into medical or dental school) and I hope to find a way to incorporate these two into a career path that makes me happy someday.
CURRENT RESEARCH WORK
Ada is working on the Community Services Study, which will help us understand the resources and services available for farmers and farm families across rural communities in Alberta. They have interviewed over 20 counsellors, social service providers, and those operating recreational programs in rural communities in Alberta. The goal is to understand the benefits gained from the users of these programs, and develop a set of best practices through lessons learned to help programs and services best reach and support those in rural communities. They have also conducted an environmental scan of any service or program across the province that supports the mental health needs of those in the farming community and are creating an interactive map that will be available on the AgKnow website.
