Casey Hartman
RESEARCH ASSISTANT BIO
My name is Casey Hartman, and I recently completed my third year majoring in Psychology at the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus. I am from the rural community of Dalum Alberta, located southeast of Drumheller. I come from many generations of farmers, who have taught me the value of the agricultural industry.
My father works in the agricultural industry as a Parts Manager for Brandt (John Deere), and I have grown my own understanding of farming as my family has raised our own meat, collected our own eggs and assisted many individuals in cultivating their grain. In my future endeavours, I am looking towards a career in counselling psychology.
Having an understanding of the stresses that farmers face will widen the scope of specialized populations that I can serve, and increase my ability to assist rural communities.
CURRENT RESEARCH WORK
Casey is working on the Farm Transitions Study. The project involves a multi-case study analysis of producers who operate a multigenerational farm in Alberta. We’ll be interviewing them and at least two of their relatives or employees to learn more about the succession planning process such as what resources they want or have found useful, and what challenges they have encountered.
