Patti Lott
I’m a rancher-turned-therapist, who loves the land and the people who work it.
For almost two decades we owned a mid-sized ranch, raised cattle and children, managed direct marketing of our grass-fed beef and participated in ongoing learning about grazing and land management. Now, still in the Alberta Foothills, my husband and I live on and care for a native grassland/aspen/willow property in conjunction with a neighbor who leases it for grazing. I started my private counselling practice in 2012, and see clients online.
I support farmers and ranchers in being emotionally and psychologically well, so that they are better able to connect to their work— its joys and challenges —and their partners, families and friends. I’m experienced working with trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, ADHD, relationship issues, life transitions, grief and loss. I am also familiar with neurodivergence, including autism.
My approach to counselling is flexible and nonjudgmental, and is much more than just talk therapy. I draw from a number of modalities (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and Person-Centred Therapy (PCT)) which I adapt to meet the needs of each person. When one person makes changes, whether in therapy or elsewhere, it has an effect on everyone around them. By supporting you, we can end up seeing positive change in your family and work relationships, too.
