Jenessa Doctor
RESEARCH ASSISTANT BIO
My name is Jenessa Doctor. I am a recent graduate from the Augustana campus of the University of Alberta, where I completed my BSc undergraduate degree in Psychology. I am from a small town called Gibbons, Alberta which is just north of the city of Edmonton.
I do not come from a family of farmers, however many of my childhood friends did, and so I have been exposed to the life of an agricultural worker over the years. I have grown a great respect for the farming industry, and anyone that chooses to be a part of it.
I had the opportunity to begin research in this field in the summer of 2022 where I worked alongside Dr. Rebecca on a study examining the factors that contribute to farmer suicide. With the help of another research assistant, Jude Keehn, we were able to get this work published in the Journal of Rural and Remote Health.
Creating awareness, and educating myself and others about the factors surrounding farmer mental health has become something I value and can significantly appreciate.
CURRENT RESEARCH WORK
Jenessa is working on the Farm Animal Epidemic and Depopulation Study.
