Shelby Loomis
I grew up on a third-generation cattle and grain farm in Alberta, where I spent my childhood helping my parents and was an active member of the 4-H Beef Club. Now, my husband and I are building a farm of our own, raising cattle and growing crops. I understand the long hours, the unpredictability of the seasons, the stress of running a farm, and the deep family connections that come with this lifestyle.
As a psychologist, I bring this understanding to my work and help farmers and their families navigate the unique challenges that come with agriculture. Whether you’re dealing with stress, relationship struggles, farm succession, or the weight of multigenerational family dynamics, I provide a space where you can talk openly without having to explain what farming life is like - I already live it.
I became a Registered Psychologist in 2021 through the College of Alberta Psychologists. My background includes: working with adults with disabilities, supporting children with behavioral concerns in group homes, and working with families involved with Child and Family Services. I have also facilitated an Anger Management Group at Cornerstone Counselling. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), both of which can be helpful for trauma, stress and anxiety.
Some key areas I focus on include: suicide prevention, farm transition, family dynamics and multigenerational work. I know how hard it can be to ask for help, especially in a culture that values strength and independence, but you don’t have to go through tough times alone. I’m here to listen and support you in finding a way forward that works for you and your family.
